^ Subject: New share library package: AREP

This is an announcement of a new refereed GAP share library package: AREP

Authors: Sebastian Egner and Markus Pueschel
Language: GAP
Operating System: any
Current version: 1.0 (in GAP 3.3 distribution)

AREP is a package of high-level GAP functions to do efficient
calculations in constructive representation theory and applications.
It contains functions that deal with

Monomial Matrices
Structured Matrices (such as tensor products)
Structured Representations (such as induced ones or tensor products)
Symmetry of Matrices
Discrete Signal Transforms
Matrix decompositions
Fast Fourier Transforms
Automatic Generation of Fast Signal Transforms

AREP processes representations symbolically as far as possible. There
are functions for inducing, tensoring, decomposing representations etc.
Special emphasis is on permutation and monomial representations.
Some of the implemented algorithms require the group to be solvable.

The AREP package is distributed under the terms and conditions of the GAP
copyright. It is available as gziped tar file (size 518k) via anonymous ftp
from the incoming directory of GAPs ftp servers, in particular at

'ftp-gap.dcs.st-and.ac.uk' (University of St Andrews, Scotland):
get /pub/gap/gap-3.4.4/share/arep-1.0.tgz
