^ Subject: use of the forum

In thanking Frank Celler for straightening out a misunderstanding in
the use of a GAP funktion Charley Wright apologises for having sent
his question to the gap-forum. I want to emphazise that there is no
reason for such an apology, in fact I am grateful if such questions
are made public rather than being discussed privately, since I am sure
that other users are likely to run into similar problems and are such
alerted to more subtle points. I want to encourage all GAP users to
make bug reports but also such misunderstandings known through the
GAP-forum, it will always take some time until bugs get fixed in a
patch and misunderstandings better prevented by additional warnings in
the manual. We may not always be able to react as fast as Frank did in
this case and we ask understanding for that, but not answering
immediately should not be interpreted as unwillingness to answer.
There is no point at all to sweep such things under the carpet, to the
contrary it is the strong belief of all that are working to extend and
improve GAP that they should be known in order to prevent
disappointment in the use of GAP.
