^ Subject: New Year Closure

Dear GAP Forum,

We have been advised by the university that our internet connection will be
shut down some time on December 31st 1999, restarting (all being well) on
January 5th 2000. This will completely cut off access to the main GAP Web and
FTP sites and to the gap, gap-trouble and gap-forum email addresses. In theory
email should simply wait on the sending machine until our machines are
reconnected, but I would expect some problems with timeouts or with full mail
spools to make this work less than perfectly in practice.

As far as I know, the mirror Web and FTP sites should remain available at

http://www.math.rwth-aachen.de/~GAP/ (Aachen, Germany)
http://mirrors.ccs.neu.edu/GAP/NEU/ (Boston, USA)
http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/research.groups/algebra/GAP/www/
(Canberra, Australia)

We can only apologise for this interruption, which is not of our making. To
the best of our knowledge, both GAP, and our operations at "GAP HQ" should
work fine in the year 2000.

Steve Linton
